Land Use Plan meeting

A public information meeting is scheduled for Wednesday,  October 14, at the Ronkonkoma Fire House on Portion Road. The meeting will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. when the Town of Brookhaven, Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Association and the Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce will unveil its new Land Use Plan for Lake Ronkonkoma and Farmingville.

A little about the lake…

The way I heard it was from a guest into Mrs. Phillip’s fourth grade class at Hiawatha Elementary School. Apparently Ronkonkoma was an Indian princess who fell in love with a white man. Her father disapproved. In defiance of her father for not letting her be with her lover, Ronkonkoma took her own life. She drowned in the lake only after¬† vowing to take the life of one white man a year.

Now a white male doesn’t drown in the lake every year, but it’s been known to happen. At least that’s the way I heard it. Here’s the way some tell it.
