Land Use Plan meeting

A public information meeting is scheduled for Wednesday,  October 14, at the Ronkonkoma Fire House on Portion Road. The meeting will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. when the Town of Brookhaven, Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Association and the Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce will unveil its new Land Use Plan for Lake Ronkonkoma and Farmingville.

A little about the lake…

The way I heard it was from a guest into Mrs. Phillip’s fourth grade class at Hiawatha Elementary School. Apparently Ronkonkoma was an Indian princess who fell in love with a white man. Her father disapproved. In defiance of her father for not letting her be with her lover, Ronkonkoma took her own life. She drowned in the lake only after  vowing to take the life of one white man a year.

Now a white male doesn’t drown in the lake every year, but it’s been known to happen. At least that’s the way I heard it. Here’s the way some tell it.
